Clear your ears for Beatrice

I first met Maame Beatrice (I prefer to call her Maame Beatrice instead of Beatrice because she said I could be her son during one of our telephone conversation) after Maame Lucy recommended Ghana Music.com to her and that we could take her places she never imagined of.

For Beatrice, her album showcases how God has been God to her on songs like “Enye Onyame”, “Onyame Nsa Wo Mu”, “Bubu Obonsam” and “Winner”.

Beatrice along with Doris have formed a strong tag team with the intent of writing and producing great gospel music to pull more people to the Lord’s Kingdom. Doris is a backing vocalist who has backed Beatrice with her angelic voice.

With her first major label CD, doing well in Canada, she is also hoping to crossing over to the secular market.  Beatrice attributes her success to “the favours and blessings of God” and God’s stamp of approval on her season. She will be having a mammoth album launch in Ghana very soon.

The songs on her album are songs which are from Beatrice’s heart. During her recording sessions she didn’t use a lead sheet; she would walk into the studio and just allow God to speak through her. The outcome created such great worship songs something she did as a hobby.

Ghana Music.com:  How long have you been singing professionally?

Beatrice: Professionally, this is my first album, but I have been singing, my whole life even as a child.

Ghana Music.com: Who were your major influences, internationally and locally?

Beatrice: I personally sing to glorify God, I get the influence from his word, but I like Prophet Seth Frimpong, he is a friend, he performed at my Canada launching.

Ghana Music.com:  What is Beatrice up to lately and what can we look forward to from you?

Beatrice: I just launched the album in Canada last year, shot 2 videos and getting ready to relaunch the album in Ghana this year.

Ghana Music.com:  How would you best describe your vocal style?

Beatrice: My style is unique and soulful.

Ghana Music.com: List your biggest and successful hit, or popular songs?

Beatrice: The feedback I got is very great, a lot of people have different favorites, but the most is “Enye Onyame”, “Onyame Nsa Wo Mu”, “Bubu Obonsam” and “Winner”.

Ghana Music.com: As a female do you think gender plays a part in helping or advancing your career?

Beatrice: Gender plays a big role, It’s a male operated industry, but I am lucky to be surrounded by the right people (Producer, management).

Ghana Music.com:  In the Ghanaian and Canadian music industry do you think that radio, TV and the concerts offer the female artist the same opportunities to be seen and heard as your male peers?

Beatrice: In Canada there’s an equal opportunity in my view, but I can’t speak for others, especially the musicians in Ghana.

Ghana Music.com: What are some of the things you think the industry could do to make it easier for female artist to break into the industry or succeed?

Beatrice: Encouragement and to be given the chance, there are a lot of talents  but the opportunity is the problem. Music has no boundaries, gender and age, I feel like we should stop playing favoritism.

Ghana Music.com:  What can female gospel singers do to improve and increase their visibility on stage and on record?

Beatrice:  Put God first, try not to please the world but our Lord and saviour and also keep encouraging others.

Ghana Music.com: What would it take for female artist to be recorded, get air play, live shows and promotion in Canada?

Beatrice: Talent, dedication, encouragement and a good supporting cast (producer, backup singers, dancers etc).

Ghana Music.com: Do promoters try to book you for shows often?

Beatrice: Yes, promoters book me for shows a lot.

Ghana Music.com: As a servant of God what goals would you like to accomplish?

Beatrice: I want to minister the gospel through my music to the world and just encourage other artists and people in general to worship him, because he is worthy to be praised.

Ghana Music.com:  As young female artist do you get the respect and support of your peers in the music business?

Beatrice: Yes, I get the respect, but respect is earned and in order to get that you have to respect, everyone and anyone (no matter age or gender) and when that is achieved you get your respect back.

Ghana Music.com: Describe your fondest or best memory in the music business?

Beatrice: My launching day in Canada, it was so special, God blessed me a lot that day and I thank everyone who was involved in it, the best is yet to come.

Ghana Music.com: Describe your worst memory?

Beatrice: The preparation for the launching in Canada.

Ghana Music.com: We can’t finish without you talking about your album?

Beatrice: I don’t want to say much, just get the album and it will speak for itself, I am just thankful the Lord has given me the opportunity to minister his word, and I hope the whole entire world will hear it, all the glory go to God.
