The DJ Black Experiment

In his bid to take Disc jockeying to another level in the country, D.J. Black of Joy 99.7 FM is to come out with an album titled Tuntum Mixed Tape.

The album will feature most of the big names in the Hiplife industry as well as some hiphop artists who are outside the country. This innovation will have the musicians doing free style rapping and singing using beats of Black’s own mixes.

The D.J. will also hold interviews with some of the hiplife artists while there will be a phone-in segment designed for people to call and talk to their favourite stars. Stars on the album include Reggie Rockstone, VIP, Tinny, Castro, Sydney, Nkasei, BukBak, Sammy B, Lyrical 419, Mensah, Cylover and Lord Lust.

Foreign-based hiphop artists like China Girl from Atlanta-Georgia in U.S.A and JPE from the U.K. will also feature on the album to give it international appeal.

According to Black, this album is not only meant to entertain but also to project the rich potentials in hiplife music and the works of DJ's in the country to the outside world.

Though it is not the first of its kind, he believes strongly that this album is unique in the sense that it will go beyond the shores of Ghana and announce creative abilities of locals DJ's to the whole world.

The first mixed tape albums in the country were made by Billy Ocean of Peace FM and they were titled Afrafra Hene in different volumes but Black said he was rather inspired to do this project when he heard mixed tape albums of some foreign DJ’s like Master Flex, Tim Westwood, D.J. Clue and D.J. Kofi.

Tuntum Mixed Tape is solely produced and sponsored by Blackbone Entertainment, a production company owned by Black himself.

The album has some of its songs being recorded at both Kay’s Frequency and Reggie Rockstone's Studios and it will be out exclusively in CDs.
