Accra Jazz Festival Ends At Du Bois Centre

The maiden Accra jazz festival was held last Saturday at the Du Bois centre.

The festival which was organised by the Accra International Jazz Club is the first in a series of festivals, subsequent ones of which will be forthcoming from next year.

Some of the artistes who featured at the festival are the Karma band, Hewale Soundz and The Just Friends Quintet. The rest were, Jimmy?s Combo, Ray Allen and friends and Tema based Liberian Jazz soloist, Miata Fahnbulleh. Other local performers such as Musiki Wa Afrika and Amartey Hedzolleh played indigenous instruments from various parts of the continent such as the ?wia flute? and the ?mbira? from Zimbabwe.

The main objective of the Accra International Jazz Club are to create a forum for musicians in Ghana, organise exchanges with international Jazz Festivals, workshops and produce Jazz CDs.

The maiden festival precedes a bigger festival scheduled for next year and which would feature groups and artistes of international repute from other African countries, Europe and the Americas.
