Mediators Sing ?Obeye?

The gospel songs of the music genre created by artistes of Seventh Day Adventist Day Adventists persuasion are some of the most ear pleasing and inspiring to listen to.

This is because apart from coming out with clear biblical instructions on what ought to be done and what not to do, they make sure their songs blend different music parts (minimum of four) to create aesthetic pieces of work.

Joining that group of SDA performers is a group of five gentlemen and a lady who are members of the Madina East S.D.A Church. The name of the group is Mediators and it is led by Bro Edwin Gamel Fianuku.

The group made up of Gamel, Japhet Boafo Tetteh, Samuel Minneaux Thompson, Benjamin Nana Buabeng, Philip Owusu-Ansah and Cynthia Opoku has recently released its maiden album title ?Obeye? (He will do it).

The title song is an inspiring one that urges Christians to have faith in God because he has promised to be by them and He will act according to his promise. The lead vocalist asks: Have you forgotten we have a saviour who is able to do all things? Then he goes on to tell the troubles to leave everything with the Lord for he will solve their problems.

It is a song created in a fast paced reggae mode. The major part of the words are sang by the lead vocalist with occasional interventions by the rest of the group in their own individual parts namely alto, tenor and bass.

?Beso Hwe? (Taste and See) is another reggae style music although this time it comes with a slower tempo that ?Obeye?. What the Mediators are saying in this song is that all should come to taste of the Lord?s sacrificial love.

The song has a good refraining where all members of the group come together to repeat the portion that says ?mommra meso nwhe? several times over. Instrumentation on the song is good, especially, the standout of the lead guitar. This song is my personal favourite on the album.

One must say that the mediators could have been a bit more creative on the album because majority of the songs on its go with reggae beat. The same rhythm is on the song ?Mo Mmia Mo Ani?, which translates to mean endure.

Notwithstanding the fact that the song comes with the monotony of reggae rhythms on the album it sure is a good piece of work, in terms of lyrics, from these young musicians. Many Christians do not wish to endure hardship though they want to succeed in life.

However, the Mediators want all Christians to know that suffering is part of Christian living and so it must be endured. They want all to know that doing the work of God well comes with rewards in spite of the suffering that they are likely to go through. Good advice, if you ask me.

Since they came together in 1998 to form the group the members of Mediators have one important goal viz, to produce an album with the view to reaching a bigger audience. That is what they have done with ?Obeye?.

There are other songs on the album such as ?Yewo Nyame?, ?Tekyrema Apam?, ?Nyame Agyan Onim?, and ?Gye Me So?. The album was produced by Mid ?8? S Production.
