Stars of the Future Second performance was a Blast!

TO think the string of brilliant performances put up by contestants of the stars of the future reality show when they took to the stage for the first time was a mirage; their second performance last Thursday night at the National Theater perfectly served the vindicatory role. With all facets of the production properly coordinated on the night, it passes for a classic show by all standards. Undoubtedly, it was an improvement upon the first performance where then twelve finalists treated the audience to some amazing showing. The Patch Bay band kick started the night with their renditions of a few classics, from both local and international musicians. This followed with a welcome note by the affable and smooth talking presenter of season five of Ghana’s most exciting music reality show, Sedem Ofori. Soon it was time to mount the stage and Kaki was the first to shoot. Performing ‘Spotlight’ by Jennifer Hudson, Kaki raised the stakes high, setting the standards for her contenders with her brilliant showing. She succeeded in getting into the good books of the three judges. Kwame who won the Golden Moment Award for the first performance was at his utmost and caught the attention of the judges for a second performance. He did justice to Marc Anthony’s ‘I Need You’ exhibiting his vocal ability and a great stage presence to the satisfaction of Judge Kiki Banson who had earlier stated his expectation of ‘originality’ from all contestants on the night. Abby proved to have arrived and not settling for anything aside the car and recording contract coming on in a Zulu costume. She effectively combined her singing ability and stage craft to get the crowd chanting throughout. Abby brought on the fun, as she performed Brenda Fassie’s hit ‘Vuli Ndlela’. Emmanuel had another night going for him. Full of passion, he was spot on for his performance, a song titled ‘Unbreakable’ by the American singing group Boyz II Men. Dave had to go pass his laid back and shy attitude to produce a stunning performance of ‘Ordinary People’ by John Legend. Noella gave a good account of herself a song ‘I Believe’ originally performed by Cher. The last singer for the night was Daniella who turned out to be a spectacle to watch. She had the right gear for her performance, ‘If I were a Boy’ sung by Beyonce. Rauhel, Henry, Reynolds and Lisa redeemed themselves with their performances on the night according to the judges who expressed their satisfaction with the second performance. In the words of the Zapp Mallet, ‘we are yet to see the best from these wonderful singers, they are phenomenal’. Another plus to the show was the costuming. All contestants came on stage appropriately dressed for the night and also with their gear matching their performance. Next is the eviction night and all patrons are encouraged to vote to keep their favorites in the competition by texting their names to the MTN short code 1750 and also come out in their numbers to support their favorite contestants. Admission to the weekly performances scheduled to come off at 7Pm every Thursday at the National Theater will be free.
