Court restrains three from interfering in Aboakyer festival

An Agona Swedru High Court has restrained two chiefs and an elder of the Effutu traditional area in the Central region from performing the functions of Nana Ghartey the seventh, Omanhene of the area on Saturday, May two which is the climax of this year's annual Aboakyer festival of the Effutus. They are, Nana Otubua Siripi the second, Tufuhene, Nana Gyankumah, Adontenhene, and Dr Kofi Essilfie Taylor. The court, presided over by Mr Justice F. Kusi-Appiah, a high court judge, upheld a suit filed on behalf of the plaintiffs, Nana Ghartey and Opanin Kwaku Kyikyibi of the Otuano royal family by Mr Thomas Ghunney, their counsel on April 28, this year. In the suit, the applicants asked the court to restrain the defendants from performing the role of Nana Ghartey and Otuano royal family on the day of the festival pending the hearing of an appeal filed against a judgement delivered by Akoto Bamfo Junior in 1994. On April 16, this year, the Central Regional Security Council signed an accord of understanding which requests Nana Ghartey and Nana Gyankumah not to participate in this year's Aboakyer festival in the interest of peace during the festival on May two. The accord allows the Tufuhene, Nana Otuaboa Siripi, to step on the first catch, on behalf of the Omanhene
