People Listen To Me More Than President Mills– Sarkodie

Acclaimed Ghana's fastest rapper, Sarkodie a.k.a “Obedeponbidi”, the man of the moment, has stated that more people listen to him than the President of Ghana, John Evans Atta Mills.

The reigning “Best Artiste” in Ghana, made this categorical statement at the African Regent Hotel on Friday May 21, 2010 during the press launch of the Vodafone 020 Live concert. The occasion was also afforded members of the inky fraternity the opportunity to interact with artistes billed to perform on the day.

“You know what time it is, I mean people listen to me much more than the president himself because it is Sarkodie everywhere you go...So I think I am the right person to speak to Ghanaians. I am on board particularly because I think you did that for the people,” Sarkodie stated when he took his turn to address the press.

“Thanks to Vodafone for choosing an artiste like Sarkodie because I have been on every show and you couldn’t get bored of me, so you still need Sarkodie,” he added.

But the Tema-based lyrical tongue twister, seemed a bit confused with what he was supposed to say about a charity project attached to their performance after the concert.

When prompted to say something about it, he said he was not really briefed about any charity project, because of some miscommunication between him and his management. “I thought it was a show for Vodafone, as its their 1st Anniversary and now they have a charity project?” he asked.

Touching on the Vodafone 020 Live show, the "Borga" said he will not be performing for free eventhough it is a charity event, but stressed that he took some paltry amount of money from the organizers.

“I roam the whole of Ghana playing shows in Kumasi and everywhere for free, I do a lot charity works so for this one I just took some few coins from them because they can’t really pay me...,” he explained.

Sarkodie won five awards, “Discovery, Best Rapper, Best Hip life/Hip pop Artiste” and “Album of the Year” awards, and was adjudged “Best Artiste of the Year", at this year’s Ghana Music Awards. He has also won the hearts of several both old and young Ghanaians with his unique tongue twisting style of rap in Twi.

Well, for now, he is the man of the moment having been performing at all the big shows in Ghana and enjoying the spot light being on him now.

Maybe he was miscontrued by the remarks that he believes "his voice is heard in Ghana more than the President.

Peacefmonline just hopes he still remembers the advice Obrafour gave him in his song titled “Hiplife”.
