"Wench suspects arrested", is the banner headline story on the front page of the Times. The story says a man suspected to have murdered Madam Sadatu Bawa, 50, a woman who was among four people killed in the recent clash between two Muslim sects at Wenchi, in the Brong Ahafo Region, has been arrested by security personnel at Kintampo. Identified only as Buhari, the suspect was arrested last Friday at his hideout following a tip-off. The Times says highly-placed security sources indicate that Buhari offered a lot of useful information to the police and named the whereabouts of his main accomplice. GRI

In another front page story headlined: "V. Region's 100-km road of snakes", the Times reports that the 100-kilometre road from Ho to Denu in the Volta Region, was at the weekend inundated with large numbers of snakes, tortoise, other reptiles and game anmimals. The paper says this is because almost the entire vegetation along the road has been destroyed by ravaging bushfires. It says the surviving creatures fleeing the fires found sanctuary in the middle of the road, but most of them ended up being killed by vehicles. GRI

In a centre spread story, the Times reports that some 70 expers at the weekend urged the Ministry of Communications to convene a National Communications Conference during the year to formulate an orderly and sustainable development of the sector. According to the Times, a 10-point communique issued at the end of a retreat by the experts at Sogakope in the Volta Region, said invitation should be extended to suppliers, consumers, polcy-makers and legislators to trade ideas on a draft communications policy and establish an immediate and long-term programme of implementation. The Times, in a back page story says the people of Gomoa Ayensuadzi, have launched a programme code-named " send your child to school" as part of their efforts to ensure the success of the Free, Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FC UBE) programme. Acccording to the paper, Nana Akomanyi Damoah II, Nifahene of the town who announced this at the annual 'Akwanbo' festival of the people, said the programme would not only create awareness among parents but would also help solve the problem of falling standards of education in the Gomoa district.
