Lift ban on intallation at Twifo-Mampong

Twifo-Praso (Central Region) 28 Jan.'99

Nana Okofo Buabin, regent of Twifo Mampong traditional area, has appealed to the regional and national house of chiefs to lift the ban on the installation of a substantive chief for Twifo in view of the relative peace prevailing in the area. Nana Buabin made the appeal when Lt. Colonel Charles Agbenaza (rtd), Central Regional Minister, paid a courtesy call on him as part of a familiarisation tour of the region yesterday. Nana Buabin said the only chieftaincy problem they have in the area is the one between them and the Morkwa traditional area and called on the minister to assist them to find a lasting solution to the problem. He commended the government for extending electricity to the area and the payment of compensation for houses that were destroyed during the establishment of the Twifo Oil Palm Plantation (TOPP) project. At an open forum with heads of departments and assembly members, Colonel Agbenaza called on the youth to take advantage of the 2.5 billion cedi ''Youth in Agriculture'' project to go into farming. The Minister said the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) would tackle the accommodation, education and communication problems facing the district.
