Mavis Joins The Gospel Train

As a child, Mrs. Mavis Tweneboah-Mensah loved acting and took part in school dramas. In 1996 she was invited by the late S.K. Oppong to join the then Osofo Dadzie Group.

"The late S.K. Oppong was a family friend and he used to visit us at our residence in Tema. Naturally, I am the jovial type and loved acting. S.K. Oppong saw my talent and invited me for auditioning and I joined the Osofo-Dadzie Group", Mrs. Tweneboah-Mensah recalled in an interview.

Two years after joining the Osofo Dadzie group, it was changed to Cantata. "The name was changed to Cantata because we wanted a change from all the other local dramas that were on television. Hence, we introduced music into the drama", she explained.

Interestingly, Mrs. Tweneboah-Mensah is no longer a member of Cantata and neither is she acting. She is now a gospel musician.

"After S. K. Oppong died, things were not moving on smoothly and so I decided to quit and purse my music career because I had a talent in singing too", she explained.

Mrs. Tweneboah-Mensah's first gospel album, 'Mehyia Yesu', which has eight tracks, did very well on the market.

Currently, she is working on her second, album, which she said, would hopefully come out in January next year.

She said she was happy to be part of the gospel musicians' family. "Gospel music is a form of evangelisation and it can reach a vast majority of people".

Mrs. Twenebaoh-Mensah said she did not think people were into gospel music because of money.

She advised gospel musicians to hold on firm to the Lord. "There are difficulties and in so far as it is God's work, he will see us through", she said confidently.

Mrs. Tweneboah-Mensah attended Manhean Primary and Middle Schools, Tema New Town. She later learnt dressmaking. She is married to Ben Mensah and they have two children, Priscilla and Prince. She worships at Assemblies of God Church, Tema.
