Hundreds Turn Out As Future Stars

Judging by the hundreds of young people who thronged the Erata Hotel Last Saturday, Stars of the Future, the search for one music star and one comedy icon, is currently the most sought- after talent hunt for young people in Ghana.

As at 10am on the day of the auditioning the main bar of the Erata Hotel, was so packed that others had to perch themselves on every available flat object. This included packed cars, walls, lawns and even the spare seats of the security men outside the hotel.

The organizers of this unique search, CharterHouse, auditioned over five hundred people between the ages of 16 ? 25 who had dreams of becoming either a music star or a comedy icon.

One after the other, each wannabe star, was given a maximum of two minutes to impress judges Fritz Baffour, B. B. Brew, Yasmeen Helwani and Nana King.

Amidst their efforts to climb the ladder of fame, it was quite obvious that some of these competitors had come very prepared while others probably gave the judges a good laugh with their performances.

While others were neatly dressed and appeared like the stars that they were required to look like, others had also appeared so unsure of themselves and also messed up with their performances.

Probably in the bid to test for their ability to sustain the attention of audiences, they were required to perform in an empty auditorium where they did not get to see the judges who watched them perform live in another room on a scene projector.

In a previous audition that took place in Takoradi and Cape Coast, about eighty young people were registered for the auditioning. Out of this number, 52 qualified to enter into the preliminaries. They were made up of 15 comedians and 35 musicians.

Out of the over 500 people who auditioned at Erata Hotel, 90 have been short listed for the next level of the search. The next search is scheduled to take place at the Miklin Hotel in Kumasi on Saturday, February, 25.
After the first auditioning at the various regions viewers can begin to watch how the participants faired on GTV in a reality TV show.

Winners of the competition, both in the music and comedy categories of the Stars of the Future will be given 5,000 US dollars cash prize, a recording contract for the music star, an opportunity to be used as an official Charterhouse or sponsors? compere and other attractive packages.
