Minister confirms that decison will not be reversed

Notwithstanding the concerns of the public over the imposition of a five-percent tax on generators in the face of the energy crisis, especially GRi readers overseas, the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry has stated there is no plan in place as yet to give a waiver to imports of generators.

He that it is only generators above the 375 KVA range that enjoy zero tax rates. In other words industrial generators. Generators for household use are therefore to attract the tax.

Those that fall below the 375 KVA capacity are to be taxed at the five- percent rate.

He added that if one imports a generator below the 375 KVA range and it is for an industrial concern he has to convince the Investment Promotion centre to get a waiver and this is clearly stated in this year's budget statement.

The Public Relations department of the Customs Excise and Preventive Service has confirmed the Minister's statement.
