Junior doctors to carry out threat

Accra (Greater Accra), 8 Dec. '98 Dr Asamoah Menieson, spokesman for junior doctors at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, reiterated yesterday that they will not extend the December 11 deadline for the withdrawal of their services if their demands are not met.

He told GRi in Accra that they have already taken the decision saying ''we even decided on December seven but the majority of doctors pleaded for the date to be extended to December 11."

"I think we have had enough and will not to like to go further''.

Dr Manieson said the doctors at Korle-Bu are not fighting for themselves only but for other colleagues in the regions as well.

"If things work out perfectly here (at Korle Bu), they will also benefit. There is no need for a representative from each region to be here''.

A meeting was held yesterday by representatives of the Ministry of Health, junior doctors, Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare and Ghana Medical Association behind closed doors. No details of the meeting are available.

Junior doctors of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on the December two announced their decision to withdraw their services from December 11 if their demands for increased salaries and better working conditions were not met.

They also requested the ministry of health to equate them to their colleagues in other state hospitals in the interim before the implementation of the Price Water House report.

A meeting convened by the minister-designate, Mr Samuel Nuamah Donkor and the junior doctors on December Four ended inconclusively. GRi
