Mankransohene Duped

Mankranso (Ashanti Region) 28 May, '98 The Ahafo Ano South District Tribunal, chaired by Alhaji Musa Kofi Nuamah, has sentenced a 20 year old unemployed to 12 years imprisonment in hard labour for posing as the son of Nana Obiri Mankran II, Mankransohene and duping him of sixty-five thousand cedis. The man Kofi Asiedu pleaded guilty

The accused, who also wanted to mislead the tribunal by giving his age as seventeen years, was found to be twenty years old through medical examination by doctors. Police Inspector Bukari Braima told the tribunal that sometime this year, Asiedu approached Nana Mankran that he was his son.

Inspector Braima said the accused told Nana Mankran that he (Nana) had had a love affair with his mother in Kumasi about seventeen years ago, and that the mother had told him (accused) that the father, Nana Mankran, is now at Mankranso.

The prosecution said this convinced Nana Mankran who gave Asiedu 65,000 cedis, but asked him to bring his mother on his next visit. The prosecution said Asiedu failed to take his said mother to the chief and started giving flimsy excuses.

Inspector Braima said the chief detected that his so called son was a trickster and reported him to the police. gri
