GNPC signs agreement on transmission lines.

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has signed a 15.5 million-dollar agreement with Norelec Company of France for the construction of 160 kilometres of 161 kilovolts (kv) overhead transmission lines and associated substations. Mr Tsatsu Tsikata, Chief Executive of GNPC and Mr Nat Christian Boudinet, Resident Manager of Norelec signed. Under the terms of the agreement, a line from Essiama in the Ashanti region to connect the national grid is to be commissioned within 12 months, while that from Elubo, both in the Western Region and the associated substations to be ready within 16 months. Norelec Company will be responsible for the designing, engineering and construction on a turnkey (the whole project cycle) basis. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tsikata explained that the project is part of the Tano Fields Development and Power Project, and said ''it will establish important infrastructure in the South Western part of Ghana, which has previously not been on the national grid''.
