Ghana and Iran sign Memorandum of Understanding

Accra (Greater Accra Region) 12, Oct '98 Ghana and Iran have re-affirmed their intentions to revive their joint economic commission for cooperation which has been dormant for some time now.

As a first step, the two countries have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Tehran, Iran, in the areas of Agriculture, Commerce, Human Resource Training and Technology Transfer.

This was disclosed to newsmen at the Kotoka International Airport by Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, Minister of Employment and Social Welfare on his return from a 10-day exploratory visit to Iran at the invitation of the Iranian government.

The visit coincided with the 24th Tehran International Trade Fair where the minister acquainted himself with exhibits displayed by Iranian companies.

Alhaji Mumuni said he had discussions with the Iranian Minister of Housing and Development, Adolah Zali, who initialed the memorandum for his country on bilateral co-operation between the two countries.

He said Iran has an advanced and comprehensive technical and vocational training systems which Ghana could tap in her Vision 2020 programme to produce quality workforce with skills, knowledge and appropriate work ethics.

According to the minister, since 1979 Iran has been self-reliant in her economic development, notably in housing, energy and engineering sectors.

He said Iranians have expressed interest in investing in construction, civil engineering and industrial sector of Ghana. GRi
