Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama is a distinguished Ghanaian economist and central banker, currently serving as the Governor of the Bank of Ghana.

He was sworn into office on February 25, 2025, by President John Dramani Mahama.

Dr Asiama has been the Governor of the Bank of Ghana since February 3, 2025.

Early Life and Education

Dr Asiama attended St. Peter's Secondary School in Nkwatia and Bishop Herman Secondary School in Kpando.

He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Southampton in the UK. He hails from Kpalime Duga in Ghana’s Volta Region.

Career

Dr Asiama has held multiple senior positions at the Bank of Ghana before becoming Governor.

He has been a key member of the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee, participating in decisions related to interest rate policy and inflation management.

Governorship

Since he was appointed Governor in February 2025, Dr Asiama has commented on the performance of Ghana’s banking sector and macroeconomic outlook.

Before his governorship, Dr Asiama was involved in legal proceedings relating to Ghana’s banking sector crisis.

In January 2025, the attorney general discontinued the case against him.

Dr Asiama is married to Margaret Asiama, whom he has publicly acknowledged for her unwavering support during his doctoral studies.
