Fatimatu Abubakar is a distinguished Ghanaian lawyer, politician, and entrepreneur who served as the former Deputy Minister for Information.

She was appointed to this position by President Nana Akufo-Addo on February 14, 2024, succeeding Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

Before her current role, she served as Deputy Minister for Information from June 2021 to February 2024 and as Deputy Communications Director at the Office of the President from January 2017 to December 2021.

During her career, Fatimatu has also been a campaign aide to President Akufo-Addo for the 2016 and 2020 elections, and she played a crucial role as a member of Akufo-Addo’s legal team during the 2020 election petition.

Before venturing into politics, she worked at Lansdown Resort, Danquah Institute, and SRM Engineering, where she held positions as a house manager and a clerk.

Education:

Fatimatu Abubakar graduated from the University of Ghana with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and English.

She also holds a degree in Law from the Ghana School of Law. In addition, she attended Kumasi Academy and Mountcrest University College.

Early Life:

Born in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, Fatimatu was actively involved in student leadership during her time at the University of Ghana.

In 2008, she served as the Vice President of the Akuafo Hall Junior Common Room.

She later contested for the position of Coordinating Secretary of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) in 2010.
