Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini is a Ghanaian politician and former broadcast journalist associated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

As of February 2026, he is regarded as a former broadcaster, having transitioned his professional focus entirely to public service and governance since entering Parliament in 2017.

Although he is still frequently referenced in the media as a "broadcast journalist and politician," his commitment to serving the public has defined his career in recent years.

He currently serves as a member of the eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, representing the Tamale North constituency.

As a former journalist, he was a host of two flagship programs at Radio Gold in Accra.

Parliamentary Service:

Alhassan Suhuyini was first elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale North in December 2016, officially taking office on January 7, 2017.

He has been re-elected in both the 2020 and 2024 general elections.

Deputy Ministerial Role:

As of February 2026, he has served in Parliament for over nine years.

On February 5, 2025, following the election of President John Dramani Mahama, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways-designate.

He was vetted and sworn into this role in March 2025, serving in this capacity for approximately one year.

Education:

Alhassan Suhuyini holds a teaching qualification and pursued his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Public Administration and Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Development Management at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

He attended Ghana Secondary School, now known as Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale.

He is also currently pursuing a PhD in Public Administration at the University of Ghana.

Career:

His career as a radio presenter began at Diamond FM in Tamale before he moved to Accra.

He had brief engagements with Citi FM and Metro TV before finding his home at Radio Gold, where he hosted the morning show "Gold Power Drive" and the weekend socio-economic and political current affairs program "Alhaji and Alhaji."

He was recognised three consecutive years as "Talk Show Host of the Year" by Ghanaian radio listeners at the Ghana Radio and Television Personality Awards in 2011, 2012, and 2013.

In 2013, he was selected and sponsored by the South Korean government to tour South Korea through its Next Generational Leaders from Africa program and participated in the 2014 International Visitor Leadership Program, a professional exchange initiative by the U.S. Department of State.

Political Career:

In 2013, President John Dramani Mahama appointed him as a board member of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

By 2014, he served as the Communications Manager for the National Hajj Council of Ghana.

He won the Tamale North seat as an NDC candidate in the 2016 General Election, marking the beginning of his parliamentary career.

Suhuyini was re-elected in the 2020 general elections and confirmed as the NDC Parliamentary Candidate in May 2023, unopposed at the close of nominations.

He retained his seat in the 2024 general election, continuing to represent the Tamale North constituency.

Background:

As a former broadcaster and experienced politician, Suhuyini has served as a Ranking Member of the Lands and Forestry Committee in Parliament.

Personal Life:

Suhuyini is a trained teacher and married Hamdiya Amadu Yakubu Vorsky in 2013.

The couple has one child. He practices Islam.

However, as of 2026, the current Minister for Roads and Highways is Kwame Governs Agbodza, while the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways is Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini.
