How Kate Gyamfua allegedly ganged up with others to beat Otiko Djaba in her office – Hawa Koomson details

Newly elected National Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mavis Hawa Koomson, has alleged that her predecessor, Kate Gyamfua and others once assaulted former NPP National Women’s Organiser Otiko Afisa Djaba in her office. According to Hawa Koomson, the incident occurred when Kate Gyamfua was serving as Otiko Djaba’s deputy during her tenure as National Women’s Organiser. Otiko Djaba served as the NPP’s National Women’s Organiser from 2010 to 2017 and later served as Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Speaking in an interview with Movement TV, excerpts of which have been shared on social media, Hawa Koomson claimed that Kate Gyamfua did not receive Otiko Djaba’s endorsement when she subsequently sought to serve as National Women’s Organiser. She alleged that this was because of disagreements between the two women during their time working together. “Let me put this on record: when Kate became Otiko’s deputy Women’s Organiser, Kate was Otiko’s deputy from 2010 to 2016. The second time that Otiko was re-elected in 2017, she didn’t take Kate as her deputy because when Kate was Otiko’s deputy, they mobilised themselves, locked Otiko up in her office and beat her. “Her own boss, they were mobilising themselves to beat her,” Hawa Koomson alleged. She further challenged any suggestion that Otiko Djaba had endorsed Kate Gyamfua’s subsequent bid for the national women’s organiser position, stressing that Otiko was alive and could speak for herself. “Otiko is alive and she is not dead, so we can verify from her. Kate should stop saying that when she became Otiko’s deputy, Otiko blessed her. She didn’t bless her,” she said. Hawa Koomson also claimed that Kate Gyamfua had been opposed to her since she became a minister under the then Akufo-Addo administration. However, she stressed that she had no personal problem with Kate Gyamfua. “I don’t have a problem with Kate but she has a problem with me,” she said. The allegations have not been independently verified. AM Inside Ghana’s Abandoned Engineering Powerhouse: What Went Wrong? Source: www.ghanaweb.com
