Manhyia South MP appears before weekend court as EOCO seeks bail decision

Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has appeared before the court as the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) seeks a decision on his bail in accordance with constitutional timelines governing detention. Baffour Awuah arrived at the Specialised Court 2, sitting at Commercial Court 5 of the High Court Complex in Accra, in the company of EOCO officials on Saturday, October 3, 2026. The court is expected to determine whether the MP should be granted bail as EOCO continues its investigations into allegations levelled against him. The Manhyia South MP waved at journalists and other individuals gathered at the court. When asked how he was feeling, he responded that he was feeling good. His appearance before the court follows his voluntary surrender to EOCO on October 1, 2026, after the agency obtained a warrant for his arrest from the Accra High Court. He was subsequently detained and has been cooperating with investigators as the probe continues. Manhyia South residents share mixed views over EOCO’s handling of MP Baffour Awuah According to EOCO, the investigation concerns allegations of criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering and tax-related offences, among other matters. Baffour Awuah, who is also a Senior Partner at Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah and Partners, has disputed aspects of EOCO’s account of the case. His lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, has maintained that the transactions under investigation arose from legal services provided by the law firm to SIC Life Savings and Loans and rejected any suggestion that the work constituted criminal conduct. EOCO has urged the public to refrain from speculation or drawing premature conclusions about the culpability of any person connected to the case. The agency has stressed that its investigation is ongoing and that all persons involved remain entitled to their constitutional rights, including due process. EOCO has also dismissed reports that Baffour Awuah had been granted GH¢50 million bail, describing such reports as inaccurate.
