Sports Ministry summons GFA leadership to a crunch meeting

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation, headed by Kofi Adams, has summoned the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to a meeting regarding the crisis in the national team. According to reports, the meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday, October 2, 2026, to address issues relating to the Black Stars’ abysmal performances in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. The discussions will focus on the challenges facing the team, the GFA’s role in the crisis, and how to fix things as soon as possible before the next international break. MPs, fans mount pressure on President Mahama to dissolve Black Stars, GFA Despite calls for the dissolution of the Black Stars and the football association, there has been no indication from the government of the necessary steps to be taken yet. Meanwhile, Portuguese manager Carlos Queiroz left his role as head coach of the Black Stars following the team’s poor performances in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers on October 1, 2026. According to reports, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the coach reached a mutual agreement to terminate his contract, bringing their partnership to an end. The Black Stars lost 2-0 to Côte d'Ivoire in their first game and went on to suffer a 4-2 defeat to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium. In Group C, Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia lead with six points each, while Ghana and Somalia lie at the bottom with zero points after two games. This puts the team’s chances of qualification under serious threat, as they have to win against Somalia in a double-header before taking on the other two opponents, who have taken a significant lead.
