Kurt Okraku set to resign as GFA president?

Is Kurt Okraku considering his future as president of the Ghana Football Association?
That is the question now quietly circulating Ghana football following one of the most difficult periods of his tenure.
There is no official indication that Okraku has decided to resign, and neither he nor the GFA has announced any such move.
But after a dramatic few days that have seen pressure mount on the association, questions over the GFA president’s future are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
The Black Stars have suffered consecutive defeats in their opening two matches of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, losing 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire before surrendering a two-goal lead to suffer a 4-2 home defeat against The Gambia.
Ghana are consequently without a point from their first two matches, while the team has now been left without a permanent head coach after Carlos Queiroz and the GFA agreed to part ways.
Queiroz’s departure has added another layer to the scrutiny surrounding Okraku’s leadership.
The Portuguese coach was appointed in April 2026 and, after his World Cup assignment, returned to lead the Black Stars into the September qualifying window. He has now left after Ghana lost both of their AFCON qualifiers.
In his farewell message, Queiroz said the “necessary conditions” for his plans had not been fully established, while acknowledging that the team's recent performances contributed to the decision to end his tenure.
And the calls for change have moved beyond supporters.
Former GFA chairman Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has publicly urged Okraku to consider resigning if he believes he is no longer delivering the results Ghana expects. Former NSA Board Chairman Seth Panwum has also called for his resignation.
Member of Parliament for Effia, Isaac Boamah-Nyarko, has separately called for Okraku’s removal and an overhaul of Ghana’s football administration.
Parliament’s Sports Committee is also preparing to invite the GFA and Sports Minister Kofi Adams to explain the Black Stars’ struggles.
So, amid all this pressure, is Okraku himself considering stepping aside?
That is the question increasingly being asked within Ghana football. For now, there is no confirmation that the GFA president is preparing to resign.
But with the Black Stars in crisis, Queiroz gone, Parliament seeking answers and calls for Okraku’s departure growing louder, the pressure on the GFA president has undoubtedly entered a new phase.
