Ghanaian producers can get $10m and still pay actors GH₵3,000 – Oscar Provencal

Veteran Ghanaian actor Oscar Provencal, popularly known as Inspector Bediako, has criticised what he describes as inadequate remuneration for actors in Ghana’s film industry. According to him, some film producers continue to pay actors relatively low fees despite the size of the budgets available for their productions. Speaking in an interview with George Quaye on Joy Prime on September 30, 2026, Oscar Provencal said he was confident in his assessment because of his years of experience in the industry. “I’m telling you this on authority that the film producers we have today, they can attack me for whatever they want to. If they’re given £10 million or dollars today to produce a film, they will still pay actors GH₵3,000 for a role,” he said. The veteran actor acknowledged that raising funds to finance film productions can be challenging, but argued that the remuneration offered to actors remains a concern. Oscar Provancal urges graduates to use skills to create jobs “We have been in the system and I’m sorry to say this, but that’s it. Obviously, it’s difficult to raise the finance to do what they do, but in terms of the remuneration, it’s not fair,” he stated. Oscar Provencal, however, noted that an actor’s benefit from appearing in a production should not necessarily be measured only by the amount they are paid for a particular role. He explained that getting visibility through film productions can create opportunities for actors to build their personal brands and explore other ventures. “For some actors, if they do get on the screens, it’s not really about how much you earn from the film or the production. It’s how much you maximize the brand that you’ve created and leverage it for other things,” he shared. He also expressed concern that some actors may not fully understand how to turn their visibility and creative work into opportunities beyond acting. “Many of them don’t have that understanding to be able to do so. I also think about whether they take their craft seriously and whether they understand who they are as creatives,” he added. View this post on Instagram
