‘I paid Sarkodie ¢120,000 for Total Cheat verse’ - Fancy Gadam

Ghanaian musician Fancy Gadam has revealed that he paid rapper Sarkodie GH¢120,000 for a feature on his 2017 hit song Total Cheat, describing the amount as an eye-opener at the time. Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime, Fancy Gadam disclosed that he initially believed the collaboration would come at no cost because Sarkodie had a close relationship with his former manager, Alhaji Nero. According to him, his manager handled all negotiations with the award-winning rapper, leaving him unaware of the financial details until preparations for the music video began. ‘I’ll never reveal you’re my next of kin, you could kill me before my time’ – McBrown asserts “For that collaboration, actually I didn’t negotiate business with him. It was my manager who did that with him, so I even believed that collaboration might be free because Sarkodie and Alhaji Nero are very good friends. They are neighbours. It’s like they grew up together, so they have a good relationship,” he said. Fancy Gadam recounted his surprise when he found out the amount paid for the feature. “The only time I knew we paid him was when we were about to do the concept. The money that we paid him made my eyes open. Imagine, in 2017, we paid Sarkodie GH¢120,000,” he revealed. Reacting to the disclosure, the show’s host remarked that Sarkodie may have even given Fancy Gadam a discount, noting that the rapper’s going rate at the time was higher. Despite the hefty fee, Fancy Gadam said he has no regrets, explaining that Sarkodie’s contribution significantly elevated the song and positively impacted his career. “My eyes opened, and I realised music is music; there’s money in music. Trust me, I don’t regret paying that money because he deserved more. He pushed the song, and it got me awards. It opened more doors for me. Thanks to Sarkodie for that wonderful support, and I think I will go back for another collaboration,” he added.
