Dear GhanaWeb: My husband discovered one of our children doesn’t belong to him

Dear GhanaWeb, I am a woman in my late 50s, and after almost 30 years of marriage, I never imagined I would find myself struggling to survive. My husband is a very successful businessman and politician. Looking at where he is today, many people would think he achieved everything on his own, but I know the sacrifices I made behind the scenes to help him get there. I stood by him for almost three decades. I supported his ambitions, helped him build connections and made sacrifices that I have never told most people about. At one point, I even slept with another man because I believed it would help my husband secure a political connection that would move his career forward. I know what I did was wrong, but at the time, I convinced myself that I was making a sacrifice for my family and my husband's future. Unfortunately, that was not the only secret I carried. In the early years of our marriage, I had an affair with another man. The relationship resulted in a pregnancy, and I gave birth to a son. I kept it a secret for years. My husband believed the child was his, and I allowed him to believe that. My husband heard something about the child and became suspicious. He eventually conducted a DNA test. The result confirmed his fears. The child was not his. I was devastated that the secret had finally been exposed, but I was even more afraid of what it would do to my family. Unfortunately, the man I had the affair with is also a politician. From what I understand, he told someone about what happened, and that information eventually reached my husband through someone who wanted to damage his ego and political career. My husband was deeply hurt and angry. But he did not leave politics. Instead, he sent me and my son away from his home. He withdrew his financial support and left us to fend for ourselves. The most confusing part is that he has refused to officially divorce me. Because of his political career, he doesn't want a divorce on paper. So, technically, I am still his wife, but in reality, I have been living like a divorced woman for years. The biological father of my son is also not helping. He is still angry with me because of the way I ended our relationship years ago, and I refuse to beg him for assistance. So I am carrying everything on my own, but I am broke. I am in my late 50s, with no husband supporting me, no financial security and no one I can comfortably turn to. Sometimes I sit alone and think about everything I sacrificed during my marriage. I know I made mistakes. I know my husband has every right to feel betrayed. But after almost 30 years together, am I really supposed to spend the rest of my life with nothing? I am tired of pretending that I am okay when I am struggling every single day. At this point in my life, should I swallow my pride and beg my husband or my son’s biological father for help, or should I accept the consequences of my past and find a way to rebuild my life alone? What do I do now? FG/EB Osebo the Zaraman opens up on life, fashion and controversies Source: www.ghanaweb.com
