Dear GhanaWeb: I made my first million shortly after my mother died

Dear GhanaWeb,
I have struggled to even tell this story because no matter how I explain it, people have already made up their minds about me.
My mother raised my sister and me alone after we lost our father when I was about five years old. My sister was only two at the time. She never remarried. Instead, she devoted her entire life to making sure we had something to eat and, most importantly, went to school.
My mother sold towels and bedsheets to survive. As her firstborn, I grew up watching everything she went through, so I started helping her from a very young age.
Every weekend, I sold towels and bedsheets with her. During vacations, I sold pure water during the day, kerosene at night, and towels and bedsheets on weekends. That was my life for years.
There were times we went to bed hungry. There were times we couldn't afford the things other people considered normal. We barely satisfied our cravings because every little bit of money had somewhere important to go.
My sister is now in her final year at the university. I finished school two years ago. When I graduated, I had only one major dream: to get a good-paying job, take care of my mother and finally allow her to enjoy the life she had sacrificed for us.
I wanted her to rest, but life had another plan. Not long after I finished school, my mother fell sick.
For the next two years, I was constantly moving up and down, trying to take care of her. I paid her medical bills, bought her drugs and did whatever I could. At the same time, I was also helping to pay my sister's school fees so she could concentrate on her education.
I kept hoping that somehow, things would change and I would finally get the kind of job that would give my mother the comfort she deserved. But I never got that opportunity.
My mother eventually passed away. We buried her five months ago. It broke me. After everything she had done for us, I couldn't even give her the life I had promised myself I would give her.
About a month after my mother's death, I made my first million cedis. It happened almost out of nowhere. The scheme that eventually brought me the money had actually been there for a long time. I was already involved in it, but I had never cashed out.
After my mother died, everything suddenly changed. A few weeks later, the money doubled. Then it kept growing.
Six months after my mother's death, I had made more money than I ever imagined I would see in my lifetime. I bought properties. My sister now has a car she uses to go to school. For the first time, we have financial security.
Everything I had prayed for seemed to be happening. But instead of being completely happy, I am deeply unhappy. Because the one person I wanted to enjoy this money with is no longer here.
My mother suffered all her life. She never got to see me succeed. That is the part that hurts me the most. People now believe I had something to do with her death. They say I used my mother for rituals to become rich.
Even my own sister has questioned me about it. Whenever I hear such things, I cry. How do I prove that I didn't do what they are accusing me of? How do I explain that the money came from something I had already been involved in before my mother died?
I understand why they are suspicious. My mother died, and shortly afterwards, my life changed dramatically. If anything, I wish she had lived long enough to enjoy this money with me.
Sometimes I even look at everything I have now and wonder why life couldn't have given me this breakthrough while she was still alive. I have the money I once prayed for, but I lost the person I wanted to spend it on.
How would I convince my own family that I didn't have anything to do with your mother's death? What do I do now?
