Dear GhanaWeb: I ignored my wife and she died after delivering our child

Dear GhanaWeb, I never imagined I'd be the kind of man who would cheat on his wife. I'm married, and everyone at work knew it. One day, a beautiful, successful woman in her late 30s walked up to me and confessed she had a crush on me. I immediately reminded her that I was married, but she didn't care. She said she only wanted "a taste" of me and promised she would never interfere with my marriage. At first, I resisted, but she didn't stop. She called every day, sent countless messages, showed up at my office, bought me lunch, bought me clothes, and constantly reminded me how much she admired me. She even convinced me that men are naturally polygamous and that I shouldn't feel guilty for cheating. Months of attention slowly broke down my resistance. Eventually, I gave in. What started as a one-time mistake quickly became a daily routine. We'd meet after work, spend hours together, eat together, and I'd only return home late at night. She made life feel exciting, effortless, and carefree. Without realizing it, I had completely checked out of my marriage. The person who suffered the most was my wife. I became cold, impatient, and emotionally unavailable. I changed my passwords, ignored her calls, insulted her during arguments, and spent more time texting another woman than talking to the woman I had vowed to love. The painful part was that she was pregnant. Then one dawn, she woke me up in tears. She poured out her heart, telling me how lonely I had made her feel and how obvious it was that another woman had taken my attention. Finally, she said she was leaving so I could be with the woman I truly wanted. I didn't believe she'd actually leave. That evening, I came home to an empty house. For the first time, reality hit me. I spent the night reflecting, reading articles, and seeking online counseling. Every piece of advice pointed to the same truth. I couldn't give another woman my heart without stealing it from my wife. I decided to end the affair and fight for my marriage. But it wasn't easy. The other woman refused to let me go. Every time I tried to walk away, she'd find a way to pull me back. Still, I kept trying to reconnect with my wife, asking her to come home. She kept saying that after she delivers the baby. Then one day, she went into labor. She had instructed everyone not to inform me. By the time I found out, she was gone. My daughter survived, but my wife didn't. She also asked her family never to let me have access to our daughter. It's been seven months since I buried the woman who loved me despite everything I put her through. I wasn't allowed to be part of the funeral. I haven't even been allowed to see and hold my daughter Every single day, I live with the weight of knowing that while I can't say I caused her death, my choices deeply wounded the woman who should have been able to rely on me the most. Some mistakes don't just break hearts. They change lives forever. If you were in my position, how would you begin to live with this kind of regret? Do you think I deserve a second chance to be part of my daughter's life? What do I do now? FG/EB View this post on Instagram
