In a tragic traffic accident near Techiman, Ghana, George Ndago lost his wife, Lawrentia Ndago, and their five children. The family was on their way to a funeral when the catastrophe struck, shattering the husband and father and sending the nation into despair.

Mr. Ndago described how his wife and children went early on the morning of April 16, 2025, to attend the funeral of Lawrentia's late brother. He had intended to join them later due to work responsibilities and bid them farewell before departing for his job.

"I was in Obuase when I received the call about the accident," Mr. Ndago sobbed. "I hadn't even reached my destination when I was told that their vehicle had crashed."

Due to their size, the family had divided into two groups, with Lawrentia, the children, and a niece going first between 4 and 5 a.m. Around 8 a.m., their vehicle crashed on the Offinso-Abofour route.

An uncle who lives nearby was quickly phoned to offer assistance, but subsequently informed Mr. Ndago of the awful news: four of his children perished suddenly on the spot. Those injured, including his wife, eldest child, and niece, were transported to the hospital but died shortly after.

"I don't know how to start life again," Mr. Ndago bemoaned in a video interview. "My entire family is gone. "I'm completely broken."

This heartbreaking tragedy has caused shockwaves throughout Ghana, with thousands expressing sorrow and condolences on social media channels.

The collision illustrates Ghana's terrible road safety statistics. According to statistics, 1,585 individuals perished in road accidents in the first eight months of 2025, highlighting the critical need for increased road safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.

Road accidents remain a serious public safety concern in Ghana, with many fatalities caused by causes such as speeding, bad road conditions, and driver irresponsibility.
