In a harrowing incident late last night, a bus traveling from Accra to Nkwawkaw came under heavy gunfire at Akyem Enyiresi after its driver unknowingly drove into an armed robbery operation.
According to eyewitness accounts from the driver of another bus on the same route, the ordeal began when armed robbers stopped their vehicle and demanded mobile phones—which were handed over without resistance. But trouble escalated when the second bus approached the scene moments later. Unaware of the danger ahead, its driver realized the blockade too late and attempted to reverse in a bid to flee.
The robbers responded by unleashing a hail of bullets on the bus, riddling the vehicle with gunfire. Remarkably, the driver managed to speed away from the ambush and escape the danger zone.
In a stroke of relief, no fatalities have been reported, though passengers are said to be deeply shaken by the close call. Authorities have been alerted, and investigations are underway as concerns over highway safety along that stretch continue to grow.
Stay tuned for updates as more details emerge.
