A Friday morning commute turned chaotic on the Kpong-Tema Highway following a serious collision between two vehicles, leaving nine people with injuries. The incident has cast a spotlight on the critical importance of our emergency services, who worked in perfect sync to manage the crisis.
The crash occurred in the Okwenya area, involving a Toyota Hiace and a Hyundai H100. The impact was severe, leaving both vehicles with significant damage and blocking the flow of traffic. The sound of the collision marked the start of a race against time to aid the injured.
At 7:29 a.m., the Kpong Fire Station received a distress call. Within minutes, a dedicated rescue team was dispatched to the scene. However, in a testament to the efficiency of local emergency networks, a collaborative effort was already underway.
Before the fire crew could arrive, a team comprising the Somanya Ambulance Service and the Akuse Police had already taken charge. They successfully rescued all nine victims from the wreckage and provided initial emergency care.

Understanding the urgency of medical attention, the first responders made the crucial decision to immediately transport the injured to nearby hospitals. The victims were swiftly taken to the Akuse Government Hospital and St. Martins Hospital to receive the treatment they needed for their various injuries.

The fire service personnel, upon arrival, joined forces with the police to assist in clearing the highway, ensuring the scene was safe and traffic could begin flowing again, minimizing disruption for other motorists.
