A devastating head-on collision claimed seven lives and left eighteen others injured on the Cape Coast-Takoradi highway Monday evening. The crash occurred at Komenda Asamasa around 7:25 PM.

According to eyewitness accounts, a Man Diesel truck traveling from Takoradi toward Cape Coast reportedly lost control while overtaking, slamming into a Sprinter bus headed in the opposite direction. The impact sent the bus careening off the road into a bush.

The Komenda Fire Station rushed to the scene, where firefighters discovered six passengers tragically trapped inside the severely damaged bus. After a careful extrication, they were rushed to Cape Coast Teaching Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival. A seventh victim, a woman initially rushed to the hospital by bystanders, succumbed to her injuries during treatment.

Fire officers successfully rescued several others from the wreckage, including three women (one of whom was pregnant), a baby, and three men. In total, eighteen injured passengers are now receiving medical care.

Following the rescue, fire crews cleared debris to restore safe traffic flow. The bodies of the deceased have been moved to the mortuary for autopsy as authorities launch a full investigation into the cause of the accident. The community remains in shock following the tragedy on this typically busy stretch of road.
