Modern Ghana reported on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at 9:00 p.m., that the Kumasi community is reeling from the shocking and unexplained death of a well-known businesswoman. Her body was discovered in her bedroom with over GH₵123,000 in cash beside her.
The victim, 48-year-old Madam Akosua Nyarko, was a respected entrepreneur who ran a successful cosmetics and provisions store in the Asafo neighborhood.
Her body was found on Wednesday morning, lying face-up on her bed in her two-bedroom apartment. Concern arose when neighbors noticed her shop had remained closed for two days—a rare occurrence for the diligent businesswoman.
After multiple attempts to reach her failed, a fellow tenant alerted the authorities. Police from the Kumasi Central Division arrived promptly and forced entry into the home. Inside, they discovered Madam Nyarko’s partially clothed body, bearing bruises on her neck and face.
Surprisingly, a plastic bag containing neatly bundled GH₵200 bills—totaling GH₵123,000—was found at the foot of her bed, completely undisturbed.
ASP Linda Aboagye, the lead investigator, stated, “There was no evidence of a break-in, and the money was left untouched, which raises serious suspicions. We’re considering all possibilities, including involvement by someone she knew.”
Preliminary findings point to strangulation as the likely cause of death, but an official autopsy will be conducted on Friday at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for confirmation.
Relatives described Madam Nyarko as financially prudent and generous. Her younger brother, visibly distressed, shared, “She had been saving that money to buy land and was very cautious about who she trusted.”
The violent nature of the crime has unsettled the community. A neighbor remarked, “She was always helping others—giving food or small loans. Who would do this to her?”
Authorities are examining nearby CCTV footage and questioning individuals who had recent contact with her. While no arrests have been made yet, several persons of interest are being interrogated.
The police continue to investigate and encourage anyone with information to come forward.
