Captain Smart, an outspoken broadcaster and political firebrand, has shattered Ghana's political landscape with explosive revelations that, if true, have the potential to dramatically reshape the national discourse on judicial independence, political accountability, and post-administration reckoning.
Speaking on his popular morning show on Onua TV, Captain Smart claimed that former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has privately urged President John Dramani Mahama to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo and prosecute New Patriotic Party (NPP) officials involved in state fund embezzlement during Akufo-Addo's administration.
Captain Smart stated, "President Akufo-Addo is aware of the rot in his government." "And he commanded Mahama to remove Gertrude Torkornoo and jail those who stole. Let the law deal with them. These aren't hollow words. It is time for Mahama to act.
A bombshell with major implications.
Captain Smart, known for his caustic comments and boldness in confronting political elites, described the claimed appeal as a rare moment of reckoning in Ghanaian politics. According to him, President Akufo-Addo, facing rising public scrutiny over his administration's legacy, feels that rebuilding trust in governance necessitates bold action, even if it means allowing his own officials to face prosecution.
"What Ghanaians don't know," Captain Smart went on, "is that the Chief Justice is part of a judicial system that protects the corrupt and shields criminals in suits. If Mahama is sincerely dedicated to combating corruption, Gertrude Torkornoo must be the first to go.
Though Captain Smart did not provide clear evidence to back up his assertions, the seriousness of his statements sparked a whirlwind of public debate, putting both the Presidency and the Judiciary in the media limelight.
