The New Patriotic Party (NPP), with Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, as its running mate, has increased its campaign efforts, including rallies and public appearances. However, their efforts to win over constituents have encountered serious difficulties. In his attempt to connect with the electorate, NAPO made remarks that have provoked indignation within the Muslim population nationally. These remarks have sparked considerable condemnation, putting the party in a difficult position as they attempt to confront the backlash and rebuild trust with the impacted population.

One of NAPO's utterances, in which he suggested that voting for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a Muslim constituted "haram," has been particularly contentious. In Islamic law, the term "haram" refers to forbidden or evil conduct, hence his remarks were both politically and religiously controversial. This has sparked debates in Ghana regarding the junction of religion and politics, raising worries about the potential misapplication of religious concepts in political discourse.

While democracy and Islamic law take different approaches to administration, NAPO's statement highlights the difficulties that arise when religious views are raised in a political environment. The repercussions from this scandal has placed doubt on the NPP's electoral prospects, as the party seeks to offset the damage while navigating the difficult interplay between faith and politics in its campaign strategy.
