According to 3news, a businesswoman from Madina, a major town in Ghana's Greater Accra Region, was discovered dead at home four days after complaining of a severe headache.
Mrs. Akosua Mensah, as she was known by her neighbors, was in her early forties and ran a popular neighborhood provision store.
Mrs. Mensah's relatives reported that she began complaining of a headache on Monday. She initially felt it was a minor problem and took some medications. However, the headache did not subside.
Her husband, Mr. Kwame Mensah, stated, "She told me she was feeling a sharp pain in her head, but we thought it was just stress from work."
Mrs. Mensah's condition worsened on Tuesday. She stopped coming to her shop and stayed in bed for much of the day.
Ama Ofori, a close friend, stated that she visited her and was astonished at how weak she appeared.
"She was generally full of energy, but that day, she could barely speak. "I told her to go to the hospital, but she said she would be fine," Ama added.
On Wednesday, Mr. Mensah reported that his wife was dizzy and unable to stand. Concerned, he decided to take her to the hospital the next morning.
Unfortunately, on Thursday morning, he discovered her lifeless in bed.
"I tried to wake her up, but she didn't move." "I rushed her to the hospital, but the doctors said she was already gone," he added, fighting back tears.
The news of Mrs. Mensah's death stunned the whole Madina community. Many people praised her as caring, hardworking, and polite.
A neighbor, Mr. Joe Asare, stated, "She was like a sister to all of us. Her business was where we got our daily necessities, and she always welcomed us with a grin."
Health officials have not determined the specific reason of her death, but some medical professionals caution that recurrent headaches may indicate major health issues.
A neighborhood nurse said, "If you have a headache that does not go away after taking medicine, please see a doctor immediately."
Mrs. Mensah leaves behind her husband and two young children.
Family and friends are still in shock and preparing for her burial. Many people of the community are demanding for frequent health screenings to prevent such tragedies.
