Members of Parliament from the Minority side boycotted sitting on Thursday afternoon in solidarity with the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, who was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on charges of causing financial loss to the state.

Wontumi was given GH¢50 million bail, however due to his inability to meet the requirements, he remains in EOCO custody.

Alexander Afenyo Markin, the Minority Leader, stated that they would like EOCO to modify the bail requirements so that Wontumi can fulfill them.

In order to seek Chairman Wontumi's release, the MPs, under the direction of their leadership, marched from Parliament House to the façade of the EOCO headquarters on the J.E.A. Mills highway in Accra, according to Justice Agbenorsi of Graphic Online.
