Ghanaian dancehall musician Shatta Wale is under fire from Ghanaians after criticizing President John Dramani Mahama and Communications Minister Sam George over the recently announced Independence Day data bundle.

Shatta Wale attacked the government's decision to give 6GB of data for GHS10 in his post, stating that Ghanaians did not require cheap data. Instead, he proposed that the government prioritize wealth growth, job possibilities, and direct financial assistance to the people.

However, his words have not gone over well with many Ghanaians, who have flocked to social media to criticize him for what they see as misguided criticism.

"You are wealthy, thus you are unconcerned with inexpensive data. But do you know how many people need this to run their businesses?" one person commented on his post.

Another person said, "Every little bit of help counts. You can afford unlimited data, yet some people struggle to get even 1GB. "Think before you speak."

Here are some more replies and comments.

Many have criticized the musician of being disconnected from the everyday problems of Ghanaians, particularly young businesses and students who rely on affordable internet access. Others noted that, while economic difficulties remain a concern, lowering data costs is a positive step toward a more digital and connected Ghana.

Some also reminded Shatta Wale of how many times he had asked for government assistance for the youth, questioning why he would reject a measure that directly helps them.

The criticism has been so strong that even some of his admirers have distanced themselves from his comments, advising him to concentrate on his music and leave politics to those who understand it.

While Shatta Wale is known for speaking his mind, it appears that many Ghanaians disagree with him this time. As the discussion continues, one thing is clear: inexpensive internet access is important to many people, and they will not let anyone downplay its significance.
