The Ghana Police Service has initiated a manhunt for a group of armed robbers who shot and killed two police officers in Poyamirea, a town near Binduri in the Upper East Region.
According to a statement released by the Director of Public Affairs, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the event occurred earlier today, Sunday, April 13.
The officers, dressed in plain clothing, were believed to be riding a private motorcycle from Bongo to Binduri when they were ambushed by the bandits.
Following the shooting of the officers, the attackers reportedly seized the motorcycle.
The identity of the slain cops are being withheld as authorities seek to notify their families in accordance with traditional and customary customs.
"The Police Administration wishes to extend its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the Regional Commander, and all officers and men in the region. "Our hearts and prayers are with you," the statement read.
The police have informed the public that they are making every attempt to apprehend those guilty and bring them to justice.
"We would like to assure the general public that the perpetrators of this heinous crime will be arrested and brought to face justice; and we will surely get them," indicated ACP Ansah-Akrofi.
Investigations are ongoing.
