A deadly crash involving a tanker truck and a Toyota sedan on the Mankessim-Accra highway has resulted in two fatalities, the Ghana National Fire Service confirmed.

The accident happened near Ekumfi Essam on June 20 when the two vehicles, moving in opposite directions, collided head-on.

Emergency teams responded to a distress call at 9:16 a.m., arriving within ten minutes to find both vehicles extensively damaged. Two occupants of the Toyota were rescued but later declared dead at Roman Hospital in Mankessim. The tanker driver survived, and authorities are investigating the cause of the crash. The impact was so severe that the Toyota’s model was unrecognizable at the scene.

The tragedy underscores persistent road safety issues on Ghana’s major highways, where speeding and reckless overtaking often lead to fatal accidents.
