According to a TV3 GH report, on the evening of January 23rd, 2025, two alleged robbers were shot and killed by police in Ghana's Asokwa Constituency during a failed robbery attempt.

Around 7:00 p.m., the suspects attempted to rob a small shop in the vicinity.

According to eyewitnesses, the two guys, Kwame Bempong and Kwaku Osei, approached the business with pistols and ordered the owner and customers to lie down on the floor.

"Everyone get down!" "Everybody down!" Kwame reportedly exclaimed as he and his accomplice entered the store.

The store's owner, who was not recognized, promptly activated an alarm, alerting neighboring police officers. Within minutes, a squad of officers arrived on the scene.

Recognizing that their strategy had failed, the suspects attempted to flee. As they fled, they opened fire on the cops, leading the police to respond in self-defense.

During the gunfight, Kwame and Kwaku were both shot and fell in an alleyway.

The cops swiftly secured the area and requested medical aid. However, paramedics pronounced the two males dead at the site.

Superintendent Akosua Ofori, Asokwa District Police Commander, hailed the officers' fast response in a media statement.

"Our officers acted swiftly, and thanks to their bravery, we were able to prevent a robbery and protect the community," she told the crowd.

Residents of the Asokwa Constituency had varying reactions to the occurrence. Some complimented the police for their quick response, while others expressed alarm about the increased instability in the region.

"It's a relief that the robbers did not injure anyone, but this is a warning that crime is increasing. "We need more police patrols," remarked a local store.

As officials continue their investigations, the remains of the deceased suspects have been sent to the morgue for additional inspection.

Police have also advised the people to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in the area.
