Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed have tragically died in a helicopter crash.

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, confirmed their deaths, stating that they were among four fatalities in the accident. The crash occurred in Adansi Akrofuom, Ashanti Region, on August 6, 2025, while the officials were en route to an event in Obuasi.

Reports indicate that the Ghana Armed Forces helicopter, a Z9 model, was carrying three crew members and five passengers—all believed to be high-ranking government officials. Witnesses described a devastating scene, with the aircraft bursting into flames upon impact.

Earlier, the military had issued a statement announcing that the helicopter, which departed Accra at 9:12 AM, had lost contact. The officials were traveling to attend the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP), an anti-illegal mining initiative in Obuasi.

Further details are expected as investigations continue.
