Suhum-Asuboi, Eastern Region—June 19, 2025

A fatal tragedy occurred on the Accra-Kumasi highway near Suhum-Asuboi when a vehicle allegedly swerved to avoid hitting a youngster who had run across the road. The vehicle lost control and collided with a group of roadside vendors, causing many casualties.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver's attempt to avoid the child caused the truck to veer off the road and crash into stalls and people. Several people are presumed dead, with several others seriously injured.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene shortly after the event and transported the injured to local hospitals for treatment. The actual number of casualties has yet to be released, but nearby locals have described the situation as "devastating".

The Ghana Police Service has initiated an inquiry into the tragedy, with attempts underway to identify the victims and determine what caused the disaster.
