The incumbent Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has expressed thanks to President-Elect John Dramani Mahama for having the National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus in Parliament re-nominate him as Speaker for the 9th Parliament.

Mr Bagbin issued a statement on Sunday [Jan 5, 2025], expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him following conversations with NDC National Executives and Parliamentary leadership.

The Speaker stated that he would uphold high standards of ethics, transparency, and accountability in Parliament moving ahead.

He also stated his goal to strengthen democratic institutions and guarantee that Parliament is more responsive to citizens' needs.
