The Ashanti Region is reeling in shock after the brutal killing of a respected headteacher in his own home.

The victim, 54-year-old Mr. Stephen Owusu, was the headteacher of Akyereyase M/A Basic School near Ejisu. Known for his kindness and commitment, he was deeply admired by students, parents, and colleagues alike.

Police reports indicate that Mr. Owusu’s body was found by his nephew around 6:00 a.m. after repeated calls to his phone went unanswered. He had severe wounds on his neck and chest, likely inflicted by a sharp object.

ASP Joyce Boadu of the Ashanti Regional Police confirmed, “This is being investigated as a homicide. We urge anyone with relevant information to assist us.”

The community of Akyereyase is devastated and fearful following the incident. Distraught residents gathered outside the teacher’s home, mourning the loss of a man many describe as gentle and caring.

“Who would harm such a good person?” wondered Adwoa Serwaa, a former student. “He was patient and never harsh with anyone.”

Neighbors say Mr. Owusu lived alone and had no known conflicts. He was deeply involved in the community, frequently running extra classes to help students in need.

Some suspect robbery may have been the motive, as the house showed signs of forced entry, and no cash or valuables were found inside.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has mourned the loss, calling Mr. Owusu a devoted educator who dedicated his life to teaching.

“This is a huge blow to our education system,” a GES representative stated.

Meanwhile, the Ejisu Municipal Assembly has vowed to aid the police probe and enhance local security.

“We must not let such violence go unchecked,” declared Municipal Chief Executive Kojo Agyeman.
