Prominent NPP figure Dr. Kobina Arthur Kennedy has revealed that former President John Agyekum Kufuor urged ex-President Nana Akufo-Addo to apologize to Ghanaians for the economic struggles and governance shortcomings during his tenure.
During a June 28, 2025, interview on TV3, Arthur Kennedy mentioned he heard this suggestion “through the grapevine” and fully supported the idea of an apology.
“I’ve heard rumors that President Kufuor advised President Akufo-Addo to apologize to Ghanaians. I strongly agree—he should apologize,” he said.
The former NPP presidential hopeful made these remarks while discussing the party’s upcoming internal elections. He criticized Akufo-Addo’s government for enabling impunity, corruption, abuse of power, and economic difficulties.
“There was impunity, corruption, arrogance in leadership, and widespread hardship,” he stated.
His comments followed concerns raised by ex-President Kufuor at the launch of the NPP’s Patriotic Institute, where Kufuor questioned the party’s declining support since 2016.
“Why has our popularity kept falling since 2016, 2020, and up to now?” Kufuor had asked.
Arthur Kennedy linked the party’s dwindling appeal to poor governance and the Akufo-Addo administration’s perceived neglect of citizens' struggles, adding, “The people endured these challenges and ultimately voted them out.”
