The leadership of the Local Companies in Mining Services (LOCOMS) has commended Heath Goldfields Limited (HGL), Prestea for making part payment of the legacy debt owed to its members.
In a statement signed by LOCOMS Secretary, Mr. Imurana Salifu, the group expressed appreciation to the company and its Managing Director, Mr. Patrick Appiah Mensah, for the steps taken to address a longstanding financial concern between the company and local contractors.
According to LOCOMS, the payment has brought “much-needed relief” to businesses that had been affected by the debt, while also signaling HGL’s renewed commitment to building stronger relations with stakeholders.
“This gesture not only provides much-needed relief to local businesses but also demonstrates a renewed commitment to fostering trust, strengthening partnerships, and promoting sustainable economic activity in the mining catchment area,” the statement read.
The group, however, urged HGL to complete payment of all outstanding debts to contractors and further ensure the active and uninterrupted operation of the Bogoso-Prestea Mine.
LOCOMS described the action as a positive turning point in the relationship between the mining company and its stakeholders, adding that they look forward to more engagements anchored on fairness, transparency, and shared prosperity.
“We congratulate the Managing Director and his leadership team for their proactive and people-centred approach to addressing key concerns,” LOCOMS said.
