Seawomen’s Hub, founded by Esther Yayera Avorkliya, a dedicated marine engineer, is a visionary initiative dedicated to inspiring and equipping the next generation of Ghanaian women to pursue careers in the maritime industry. With a focus on mentorship, advocacy, and breaking barriers in a traditionally male-dominated sector, the Hub aims to build a legacy of women who will excel at sea and inspire others to follow.
Beyond career development, Seawomen’s Hub recognizes the importance of marine stewardship. The organization actively engages in community projects that promote environmental sustainability and awareness.
On September 20th, 2025, Seawomen’s Hub partnered with Sugar Sand Society Ghana to organize a beach clean-up exercise along the Teshie-Nungua shoreline. This initiative was held in celebration of World Maritime Day on September 25th, 2025, and specifically aligned with its theme, Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity. Volunteers, maritime professionals, and local community members joined forces to remove plastic waste and debris, tackling one of the greatest threats to marine life and coastal livelihoods. The initiative underscored the Hub’s commitment not only to empowering women but also to protecting the very oceans they will one day navigate.

Founder Esther Yayera Avorkliya emphasized: “We cannot build the next generation of seawomen without ensuring the sea itself thrives.”

This clean-up marks the beginning of Seawomen’s Hub’s broader outreach programs, with more initiatives planned to engage young women, schools, and communities across Ghana. Through mentorship, advocacy, and environmental action, Seawomen’s Hub is charting a course toward a brighter, more inclusive maritime future.
