A school that began with just seven learners and two facilitators has made a strong statement in its first appearance at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Nacia Educational Centre, located at Awutu Ayiresu in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region, recorded a 100 per cent pass rate in the 2026 BECE, with all seven candidates presented by the school successfully passing the examination.
The result is particularly notable because the 2026 candidates were the school's first batch to sit the national examination.
According to information shared with TrenderHQ, four of the seven candidates obtained an aggregate score of 6, while the remaining three recorded aggregate 7.
Eric Arhin emerged among the strongest performers, obtaining aggregate 6 with eight ones in 10 subjects. Bernard Gyansah, Blessing Tawiah and Emmanuel Awudjah also recorded aggregate 6, each securing seven ones in 10 subjects.
The achievement has brought excitement to the school, with management describing the outcome as a major milestone in its relatively short history.
From seven learners to a perfect BECE record
Nacia Educational Centre was established on September 4, 2017, with a focus on helping children develop basic literacy skills.
The school was founded by Mr Nathaniel Aidoo, whose decision to establish the institution was influenced by an experience at a funeral.
According to the school, Aidoo noticed that people attending the funeral struggled to write their donations. The experience made him aware of the difficulties many people in his community faced with reading and writing.
That observation eventually became part of the motivation for establishing Nacia Educational Centre.
Aidoo had himself gone through the local education system, attending Ayiresu D/A Basic School before completing his JSS education in 1997. He later attended Obrachire Senior High Technical and completed in 2000.
He subsequently worked as a pupil teacher at Mfadwen St. Ann's Anglican Basic School and later obtained a Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast in 2011.
His experience has also extended into local governance. He served as an Assemblymember for the Mfadwen Pobee Ayiresu Electoral Area from 2014 to 2023 and currently works as Personal Assistant to the District Chief Executive for Awutu Senya West.
Intensive preparation behind the result
The school's perfect pass rate did not come without considerable preparation.
Management said the first BECE candidates were not all academically strong at the beginning of their journey. The school therefore introduced measures aimed at improving their performance and giving individual learners the support they needed.
One of the major strategies was to camp the candidates at the school during their preparation.
The learners received lessons at dawn, in the morning and in the evening. They also wrote several mock examinations, with the teachers taking time to thoroughly discuss the papers afterwards.
Students who needed additional academic support were given special attention.
The school also focused on keeping the candidates motivated throughout the preparation period.
Management attributed the final result to the dedication of teachers, the willingness of the learners to learn, long hours of preparation and the extensive use of mock examinations.
The school's learner-centred approach also meant that individual differences were considered during teaching.
A school built around more than examination results
While the 2026 BECE result has placed Nacia Educational Centre in the spotlight, the school says its ambitions go beyond examination performance.
Its stated vision is “Nurturing curious minds, sparking creativity.”
The school also seeks to develop disciplined, God-fearing, innovative and responsible young people who can become good leaders.
Its mission is to create a learning community that encourages exploration, creativity and innovation while preparing students to become adaptable and thoughtful citizens who can make a positive impact in their communities.
Management also believes students should be given opportunities outside the classroom because academic ability is not the only measure of a child's potential.
This explains the school's interest in activities including sports, arts, leadership and other extracurricular areas.
School targets bigger facilities and continued success
The first BECE success has also raised the expectations for the school. Nacia Educational Centre plans to expand its facilities to accommodate more students and acquire a bigger bus to improve transportation for learners within the district.
Management also intends to expand the school's academic programmes, facilities and student population.
For future BECE groups, the immediate target is to maintain the standard established by the 2026 candidates.
The school has set an ambitious long-term goal of becoming one of the leading educational centres in Ghana in terms of academic excellence, facilities and the development of future leaders.
For founder Nathaniel Aidoo, the experience has reinforced his belief that determination and hard work can produce results.
“With determination and hard work and God's grace, everything in education is possible,” he said.
From seven learners in 2017 to seven successful BECE candidates in 2026, Nacia Educational Centre's first examination result has given the school a strong foundation on which to build its next chapter.
