Former Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission, Musah Superior, has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to expedite the selection of a running mate for its 2028 presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, warning that prolonged internal competition could distract the party from its broader electoral goals.

According to him, delaying the decision may trigger unnecessary lobbying and internal jostling, which could weaken the party’s focus as it prepares to recapture political power in the next general elections.

Musah Superior argued that the same rationale that informed the party’s early presidential primaries should equally apply to the selection of the vice-presidential candidate.

He made these remarks in a post shared on social media, where he emphasized the need for decisiveness and consistency in the party’s leadership structure.

“I am a proponent of Dr. Bawumia choosing his running mate early; before the end of the year,” he stated. “The argument we made for the early election of the flagbearer is still relevant in the selection of running mate.”

He further cautioned that internal contestation for the position could derail party unity.

“Prolonged jostling, lobbying for the job may distract us,” he said.

Musah Superior also threw his support behind the retention of the current running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, stressing that consistency played a key role in the party’s recent internal mandate.

His comments add to the ongoing internal discussions within the NPP regarding strategy and preparations ahead of the 2028 elections.
